Gyromotics | nova in Ukraine.

Updated: Nov 20

In the past few weeks Guido traveled to Ukraine to visit several rehabilitation centers, hospitals and the largest university in the country.

During his trip, several users and prosthetists had the chance to test the foot and experience the benefits themselves. In addition, several collaboration agreements have been signed, making our products available to users in Ukraine.

UNBROKEN Ukraine

At UNBROKEN, several prosthetists explored the advantages of 𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚’s modular design, testing it firsthand. Two prosthetic users had the chance to feel the benefits and sharing their experiences with others. For one of the users we will make a tailor-made product that fits his needs and wishes!

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

On of the main reasons to visit Ukraine was because of our good relations with The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is the leading technical university of Ukraine with a rich history on research and development. During the visit Guido met rector Аnatolii Melnychenko and formally signed on behalf of Gyromotics our plans to cooperate. Together we will work on adding more functionality to the gyromotics | nova prosthetic foot system.

Later that week a start was made on the content and Guido provided a guest lecture where he shared insights and knowledge on prosthetic feet technology with an enthousiast group of students.

The 4th International Conference on Biosafety and Modern Rehabilitation Technologies

Guido also showcased 𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚 at the 4th 2024 International Scientific and Practical Conference "Biosafety and Modern Rehabilitation Technologies: Theory, Practice, Perspectives," organised by the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

For Gyromotics the focus was on rehabilitation technologies. For new amputees you would like to start with a very soft, comfortable suspension in a prosthetic foot. When you get fitter it can become a goal to do more and get a higher energy return. Next to physical change we believe psychology is important for people using prosthetics.

During the day Guido used a special room for demonstrations and meetings. It was a great opportunity to discuss, show and do more. Special thanks to Yurii and his prosthetist who tested the effects of changing various stiffnesses on the spot using the gyromotics | nova foot to show and tell what the impact is. The prosthetic foot may look the same but feels completely different.

The responses have been very positive!

Ohmatdyt - National specialized children’s hospital

During his travel, Guido visited the Ohmatdyt - National specialized children’s hospital. Ohmatdyt is the biggest children’s hospital in Ukraine. Visiting the Okhmadyt was impressive. Everyone is determined to help children, despite the situation. During this visit Gyromotics and Ohmatdyt agreed on a formal cooperation to work together to help children in need of a prosthetic foot.

These two weeks I visit Ukraine, to strengthen the relationship of Gyromotics with rehabilitation centers, hospitals and the leading technical university of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and to demonstrate our prosthetic feet system: gyromotics | nova in real life. I have presented our solution at the 4th international conference on biosafety and modern rehabilitation technologies. We formally agreed cooperations and will meet many others. Especially Artem Sazonov and Olena Golembiovska make me feel very welcome in hashtag#Ukraine.

My first visit was at UNBROKEN Ukraine at the First medical Union in Lviv. Thank you Mariana Svirchuk for the invitation and thanks to Christina Klymko for organising the visit. Special thanks for Oxana and Bohdan for showing me around at both orthopedic locations!

I have met many prosthetists besides Oxana and talked with them in detail about gyromotics | nova and how they themselves can change and repair the foot on the spot to make the suspension ideal for the user. We have been able to test with two users and were able to show the benefits. Thank you Nazar Bahniuk and Ostap Popovych, we look forward to further working on our cooperation. We thank you for the trust and will make a great new foot for your user!

As part of my trip I visited National specialized children's hospital "Okhmatdyt". At the Okhmadyt we have met Dr. Oleksandr Urin, General Director and Oleg Polozenko, Deputy Director and discussed the possibilities with the Gyromotics | nova prosthetic foot. Visiting the Okhmadyt it is impressive how determined everybody is to help children, despite the situation. We agreed a formal cooperation and work together to help children in need of a prosthetic foot.

The next day three of their team especially visited my demonstration with an adult user, to see in real live how quickly you can switch and update the suspension of a foot on the spot, and what the effects for the users are.

It was good to have this opportunity with Oleksandr Mukhopad, head of Trauma and Emergency Department, Mariia Hlushenko, Physical therapist (PT), Acute Rehabilitation Department and Kostiantyn Isaiev -- PM&R physician, Acute Rehabilitation Department. Special thanks to Yurii for testing and Artem Sazonov and Helene Golembiovska for making this possible.

We look forward to working with the people of the Okhmatdyt!

The Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is the leading technical university of Ukraine with a rich history on research and development. Together we will work on adding more functionality to the gyromotics | nova prosthetic foot system. I look forward to engage in detail with Helene Golembiovska, Artem Sazonov and Andrii Shysholin.

It is a great example how The Netherlands and Ukraine can work together. https://tpza.kpi.ua/2024/10/28/memerandum-pro-spivpratsyu-z-gyromotics/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=memerandum-pro-spivpratsyu-z-gyromotics I thank Special Envoy for Ukraine Erica Schouten, Jorg Zinken of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine and Valerii Motylov of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of the Netherlands for their support.

Part of my visit to Ukraine was to present the Gyromotics | nova at the 2024 International Scientific and Practical Conference "Biosafety and Modern Rehabilitation Technologies: Theory, Practice, Perspectives," organised by the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering (FBMI) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Many thanks for Yuliya Antonova-Rafi, Helene Golembiovska and Nataliia Seminska for the excellent organisation. It was beneficial to attend in person so besides showing the large online audience I could let people touch and feel as well.

My focus was on rehabilitation technologies. For new amputees you would like to start with a very soft, comfortable suspension in a prosthetic foot.

When you get fitter it can become a goal to do more and get a higher energy return.

For active people this can be a success to work for even in a few months time. Thanks to Yurii and his prosthetist who tested the effects of changing various stiffnesses on the spot using the gyromotics | nova foot to show and tell what the impact is. The prosthetic foot may look the same but feels completely different.

Next to physical change I believe psychology is important for people using prosthetics. We showed the options to express yourselves with the looks of your prosthetic foot. Much like glasses, the way they look is not important for functionality, but very important! Especially for children this can be a benefit during rehabilitation.

During the day I used a special room for demonstrations and meetings. It was a great opportunity to discuss, show and do more. I spent a long time with a team of specialists from the Ohkmatdyt hospital (https://ohmatdyt.com.ua/ ). Thank you for the great discussion and the time to go into detail Oleksandr Mukhopad, head of Trauma and Emergency Department, Марія Глушенко, Physical therapist (PT), Acute Rehabilitation Department and Kostiantyn Isaiev -- PM&R physician, Acute Rehabilitation Department and Oleg Polozenko, Deputy Director.

During the conference I had interesting conversations as well with rector Аnatolii Melnychenko, Andrii Shysholin and Artem Sazonov. Guido's LinkedIn post: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/gjhendriks_rehabilitation-active-psychology-activity-7262790375310864384-6bWb
